Chalice Newsletter Summer 2010

Hello everyone! It’s been quite a while since our last update. As usual, we’ve been super busy at ChaliceĀ….

What a difference a year makes. When we first met Adam Anders (Glee’s music producer), no one had any idea what a huge hit this show would be. So far, Glee has won several awards and its music has charted very high on both Billboard and iTunes. Congratulations to the entire Glee crew who took home four Emmys this year!

When Adam wasn’t producing music for Glee, he worked with teen superstars such as The Jonas Brothers, Miley Cyrus, Demi Lovato, Selena Gomez, and the winner of 2009’s The X Factor, Joe McElderry.

One of our favorite clients, Diddy (we call him Puff) returned with his band Dirty Money to work on his new album with a group of superstar producers such as Danja, Alex Da Kid, Akon, Polow, Ryan Leslie, and Rico Love. Congratulations to Puff on his Danja produced smash hit single “Hello, Good Morning.”

Another Chalice favorite, Keri Hilson camped out in both Studio A and B to work on several tunes for her sophomore studio album, No Boys Allowed. She collaborated with other Chalice clients such as T.I., Tyga and Game. Congrats to Keri for winning 2010’s Image Award for Outstanding New Artist.

The always down-to-earth duo, Pharrell and Chad Hugo booked several rooms to write and produce music for T.I., El DeBarge, Rye Rye, Chester French, Chiddy Bang, and Willow Smith (Will Smith’s daughter). The guys also worked on new material for their own group N*E*R*D.

OneRepublic frontman and music producer, Ryan Tedder wrote and produced some new songs with Keri Hilson and David Cook. He also managed to squeeze in some work for his own band. Congratulations to Ryan and his wife who recently welcomed their new baby boy, Copeland Cruz Tedder.

Young vocal powerhouse Charice Pempenco recorded “Pyramid” which features another Chalice client, Iyaz. There was absolutely no editing required here. The single has already peaked at #1 on Billboard’s Dance chart.

R&B icon and lead singer of the legendary group The Isley Brothers, Ron Isley stopped in and worked with producer Greg Curtis. It is rumored that he’ll be collaborating with Lauryn Hill, T.I., Rick Ross, and Burt Bacharach on his current project.

Island Def Jam booked out the whole studio for a couple of weeks to accommodate producers Mark Batson, Ryan Leslie and talented writers such as Johnta Austin and Chris Ivery for a writing camp geared towards upcoming projects for both Rihanna and Jennifer Lopez.

St. Louis rapper Nelly tracked vocals in Studio A with producers Dr. Luke and Akon for his single “That Body.” Nelly is set to release his 6th full-length studio album, 5.0, in November.

British pop girl group Parade shacked up in Studio B and recorded vocals for provocative songs like “Pocket Rocket” and “One Night Stand.”

The notorious but good-humored Game teamed up with JR Rotem, Keri Hilson and Tyga to work on several new tracks. Hey Game, we’ve got your freshly baked chocolate chip cookies waiting for you!

Young Money’s Tyga worked on several tracks with Chris Brown, Game and Keri Hilson for his second studio album, Careless World. This is his follow up to his 2008 debut, No Introduction.

World renowned Japanese rock vocalist, Shogo Hamada returned to Studio A with mix engineer, Neil Dorfsman. Everything went so smoothly that the session finished earlier than scheduled! Thanks to Neil for generously gifting our clients and our entire staff with Toontrack’s Music VSSD boxset. It came loaded with amazing drum software tools and programs.

Congratulations to our long-time client Bruno Mars for his monster hits with B.o.B’s “Nothin’ On You” and Travis McCoy’s “Billionaire.” Bruno’s own debut single “Just the Way You Are” is already a Top 10 Billboard hit!

We are also excited to see Shontelle’s sultry love ballad “Impossible” quickly climbing the Billboard charts. The Bajan singer-songwriter worked on this song last year with Swedish producer Arnthor Birgisson in our very own Studio B.

Another Chalice regular, producer Danja stayed busy creating tracks for teen sensation Justin Bieber, pop diva Christina Aguilera, new singer-songwriter Tina Parole, JoJo, rapper Richboy, KC, and Luke James. Congrats to Danja who was awarded with top honors at this year’s SESAC Music Award when he was named Songwriter of the Year. He also took home the award for Song of the Year for his Keri Hilson smash, “Knock You Down” which topped Billboard’s R&B/Hip Hop chart.

After working in London for several months, world class mix engineer Spike Stent returned to Studio G to tackle several new projects including Ting Tings, Gavin Rossdale, Diagram of the Heart, Ellie Goulding, Coco, Superheavy, GoldFrapp, Daisy Dares You, Melee, Hurts, and most notably the new James Blunt album, “Some Kind of Trouble” which is set to be released in November.

Other notable projects that came through Chalice were Usher, Jason Derulo, Orange Factory Music, Jared Evan, Mark Ronson, Dave Sitek (TV on the Radio), Soulja Boy, Nelly Furtado, Lloyd, Gucci Mane, Jesse McCartney, Trey Songz, Tariq Trotter (The Roots), Kid Cudi, Dave Grohl, Kara DioGuardi, John Legend, G. Curtis, Starshell, Anastasia, Amerie, Asher Roth, Rye Rye, Jamie Foxx, Eve with JKF, and DJ Montay.
